SWCS ANNUAL MEETING JUNE 11, 12, 13 - 2024 The Nebraska Soil and Water Conservation Society technical tours and awards banquet will be held in Scottsbluff, NE, June 11-13. The planning committee has been focusing on important concerns which are in line with present conservation concerns and training needs. “Talk and Walk” subjects include greenhouse tours, Palmer amaranth control, cheatgrass control, soil health, and others. Please dress accordingly for tours. Tuesday the 11th, meet at the North Platte NRD located at 100547 Airport Rd, Scottsbluff, NE 69363 and join the group for couple of Walks aka tours of the Geodesic Dome Greenhouses and the Geothermal Greenhouse. This is followed with a social hour from 5:00 – 6:00pm at the Panhandle Research and Extension Center (PHREEC), located at 4502 Ave I, Scottsbluff, NE 69361. Time to welcome new members to the chapter. Wednesday, the 12th, we start at the Panhandle Research and Extension Center. We will travel to Meadowlark Hearth Farms and tour. We will then travel back to PHREEC, to talk about Palmer Amaranth and Cheatgrass. We will tour the test plots in the afternoon. After the tours, head to the Fairfield Inn conference room located at 902 Winter Creek Dr Scottsbluff, NE. The awards banquet is scheduled for 6:00 pm. This is a great chance to celebrate our members and just take time to visit about the day and catch-up with members and guests. Our final day, June 13th, starts with the SWCS Foundation and Chapter meetings. Everyone is invited to attend these meetings and make decisions and learn about your SWCS Chapter and the Foundation. This will start at 7:30 at the PHREEC. Following the two meetings, it’s all about soil health led by our own Corey Brubaker. There will be a field demo with the soil health trailer. Hotels: A block of rooms and a conference room are reserved until May 20th at the Scottsbluff Fairfield Inn ($139 plus tax) 902 Winter Creek Dr Scottsbluff, NE. 69363 (308) 633-3500. Ask for the SWCS block. Other hotels in Scottsbluff include Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express, and Cobblestone Inn. Meals – Tuesday evening as well as Breakfast Wednesday is on your own. The Wednesday evening awards banquet meal will be catered by Applebee’s restaurant. If you have dietary restrictions, contact Edwin Harms or Robin Foulk.
